Baking Overload
Written by SBF on May 12, 2011 – 12:56 pm
The boyfriend is newly obsessed with baking. Yes, I know this is the worst possible time of year to start a hobby that keeps the house 15 degrees warmer, but that’s how he rolls.
We have dozens of chocolate chip cookies, two pies, a quiche, and three pound cakes in the kitchen right now. I’m trying to find someone to take some of this stuff since we’re leaving town in three days.
So, if you’ve got a sweet tooth and live in our neighborhood, feel free to stop by. We’re the house sending vanilla smells out into the street.

Road trippin’ down south
Written by SBF on May 10, 2011 – 4:20 pmDue to an unexpected situation the boyfriend and I are taking a road trip next week. We’re renting a truck and heading down to South Carolina to help a friend. The weather should be nice and we’ve got a pair of new sony digital cameras to document the journey.
We were going to just rush and get there ASAP but we’ve decided to turn it into a mini vacation. So, posting will be thin if at all next week, but I promise to have many exciting stories and some pictures after.
Good times.

I made this
Written by SBF on May 9, 2011 – 10:26 amNew favorite recipe: Corn Fritters from America’s Test Kitchen.
Of course I made a few changes to the recipe because I decided to make them last minute and didn’t want to go to the store for ingredients. This came about because I bought some beautiful corn but the dinner we were going to serve it at got canceled. So I had a dozen ears of corn taking up space in the fridge. Google to the rescue, as usual.
Here’s the recipe and the substitutions I made : Read more »

Sweets for my sweet
Written by SBF on May 1, 2011 – 6:12 pmOkay, to be fair, she’s not that sweet. But I do love Little Mama (the artist formerly known as Little Sister), and show that love in the best way possible, by spending money on her. Of course, with her pregnancy, much of my spending has moved to the bun in her oven.
I think her baby shower will be a combination of both. Lots of stuff to pamper mommy, and even more wonderful things for the baby. After checking out some adorable and delicious baby shower edibles, I’m in full planning mode, even though the party isn’t until August.

Easter Menu
Written by Jen on April 28, 2011 – 2:44 pm
This year’s Easter dinner kind of came out of left field for me. I decided to cook last minute, and we only had four for dinner, so I wanted to keep things simple. Also, because it was so late, I couldn’t find good lamb for a reasonable price, so we had ham instead.
Everything was pretty basic and easy to make, and works well as leftovers. I managed to find an 8 pound ham which was a lifesaver, so we won’t be eating the damn thing for a month.
I thought about doing the asparagus on the grill since the weather turned out so nice, but it wasn’t worth the effort for just vegetables.
Easter Dinner Menu
Honey Mustard Glazed Ham
Lemon Garlic Roasted Asparagus
Au Gratin Potatoes
Romain Salad with Walnut Vinaigrette
Dessert was mixed berries with fresh whipped cream.

It’s finally here
Written by SBF on April 27, 2011 – 9:04 amBy “it” I am referring to my new chair. Well, actually “they” are here. The boyfriend and I both ordered arm chairs for the den since there isn’t room for a couch in there. Yes, we could have gotten a loveseat to cuddle on, but blech. He’s got cooties. We usually use the room to read anyway, and can’t do that while cuddling.
After weeks of arguing about which designer upholstery fabric would complete our lives, we decided to get different but complementary fabrics. And they rock. The room is painted and looks incredible. Someone should put it in a magazine.
