Don’t get your facts all over Michael Steele’s talking points.

This was the best black guy Republicans could find?

bell hooks

In honor of my girl Les, some of my favorite bell hooks quotes. And something extra…

“The academy is not paradise. But learning is a place where paradise can be created.”

“… feminist solidarity rooted in a commitment to progressive politics must include a space for rigorous critique, for dissent, or we are doomed to reproduce in progressive communities the very forms of domination we seek to oppose.”

“Usually, when people talk about the “strength” of black women they are referring to the way in which they perceive black women coping with oppression. Is Up Down Now?

Written by Jen on July 22, 2009 – 2:01 pm

It fills my heart with cold dread when I have to refer to Chris Matthews as the voice of reason in any situation. It’s even hard to type now.

This vid is kind of long, but worth watching. Hateful morons. That is a very dangerous combination.

For background, the issue here is the right wing “birther” movement. They claim that President Obama is not eligible to be president because of ever-shifting reasons related to where he was born. Copies of his birth certificate have not dissuaded them. You can read more here and here.

If I rolled my eyes any harder I would dislodge my contacts where they would almost certainly travel to my brain and kill me. See, just thinking about these idiots is making me dumber.

This is not a public service announcement

Well, it sort of is. For anyone wondering about the recent proliferation of commercials and information about mesothelioma:

Mesothelioma is a rare cancer caused by exposure to asbestos, a product used for all manner of things, especially construction, until its carconogenic (cancer causing) properties were discovered. Mesothelioma effects the mesothelium, protective sacs that cover organs in the human body.

Treatment of mesothelioma depends on the location of the cancer, but in general, Mesothelioma treatment consists of one or more of the most common cancer treatments: surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy.
