I knew the good mood couldn’t last. The boyfriend just asked me what’s going on with my face. He means the zits. For some reason lately I’ve been breaking out a lot. It must be some new product I’m using or maybe laundry detergent.

Whatever it is, I’m finding myself for the first time in a very long time looking into how to get rid of acne, and quickly. Charming. I had terrible skin when I was going through puberty, and always stressed out about it.

Hopefully this time I can get rid of it, determine the cause and behave like a mature adult (yeah right) about it.

Speaking of which, the movie 13 going on 30 was such a piece of crap, right?

Books and Beer

We’ve been in the new house for a while now, and the only things left unpacked are boxes in basement. Most of that is winter things and stuff we’re probably going to get rid of. Today’s task (before heading out to see the new Harry Potter movie) has been going through all of our books. Including the 12 new books we’ve acquired since moving in but haven’t read yet.

After an hour the boyfriend and I decided that we needed to introduce beer into the sorting plan. It was getting painful to decide what to give away, so we thought a little buzz would help out. And it did. We spent 2 hours total with books and beer and have 8 boxes to give away, and I’m in a great mood.

If you haven’t seen and plan on seeing the movie Elsewhere, don’t read the rest of this post …

Living without cable makes me a lot more open to watching random things I find. One such film is Elsewhere. It’s about two small town girls. One is troubled and is played by Tania Raymonde (Alex for Lost fans out there). The other less troubled one is Sarah, played by Anna Kendrick who was in Twilight according to IMDB. Don’t get me started on that pile of shit.

Anyway, Tania’s character Jillian disappears not long into the film and it is up to Sarah to find her. Blah blah blah. The movie is fine, but Lost completely ruined the surprise of who took Jillian. As soon as I saw Jon Gries (Roger Linus/Workman), I knew he did it. I mean, obviously he did it. Before he even said a word. Hell, it was before Jillian event went missing.

I turned to Paul and told him – that guy did it. He killed her. And probably some others too. And he did. I was hoping for a twist where it was the geeky friend or the mousy daughter, but deep down I knew it would be Roger.

In Treatment Analysis from someone who knows

No, not me. I’m talking about Jung at Heart, written by a psychotherapist. There’s a recap of each episode/session, and then some thoughts about the patients, Paul, and the treatment process. It’s really interesting to read. Obviously everyone forms their own opinion about how things are going, but it is nice to see what a professional thinks.

If you’re not watching In Treatment, you should be. Some amazing acting, plus… Gabriel Byrne. He’s still very hot. My crush began with his role in Stigmata. Yes, he played a priest. This isn’t therapy, lay off me.

Tell me that’s not hot.

Finally saw Grey Gardens (2009 version)

I watched the documentary Grey Gardens in college when I was going through my only hang out with gay guys phase. It was the middle of the night and we were all floored. And wanted to grow up to be Little Edie, except not, of course. If you’ve seen it, I’m sure you know what I mean. Here’s the original trailer. There are less than 5 seconds of film of the Edies in it, but it’s still fantastic. If I remember correctly you can watch most if not all of the documentary on YouTube.

Anyway, right now I’m cableless (don’t ask – my mother is insane), so it takes a while for me to remember to get things I want to watch from uh… other online sources I won’t get into right now…

So onto the HBO production of Grey Gardens. It recounts the lives that led up to the original film, and does an amazing job of recreating some of the most memorable scenes. Jessica Lange is ridiculously good, and Drew Barrymore amazed me. Emmys all around. I’d recommend watching the documentary first, it will really help you appreciate the film.

Where the Wild Things Are!

Check it. They’re making a live action version of one of my favorite children’s books, Where the Wild Things Are. The story, written by Maurice Sendak is about a naughty little boy named Max who invents a world populated by monsters, friendly and not.

The movie is directed by Spike Jonze (hmmm) and stars Mark Ruffalo and Katherine Keener (yay!). It opens in the fall.

From the trailer, it actually looks good. I think it’s scary to see a movie based on a book like this, so attached to memories and personal imagination. But I must admit I am intrigued so far.

Sad, sad news

I am a very sad girl. I found out this week that my best girl J is leaving town. She’s been my friend for a long time and my partner in crime for months now. So crappy. To be as dramatic as possible I offer a clip from Beaches.

In other news, I’m going to be 30 in 6 days! To be honest, I’m actually excited. I thought I would be freaked out or bummed or something, but I’m looking forward to having a new decade to tear up.

Oscars or whatever

I didn’t actually watch the Oscars because… well, honestly because I was drunk and “fell asleep” by 7 pm. Must remember that I can’t start drinking at noon. Ever. Anyway, I got all I needed to know thanks to the internet, so it didn’t matter.

I did however arrive at the boyfriend’s apartment a little while ago to see him watching this. You should too.

Oh, and if you didn’t see Milk, you should watch this documentary on Hulu, The Times Of Harvey Milk.

Not a good way to wake up, I assure you

Last night we went up to Baltimore to visit some friends of mine. They’re really fun people and booze in Baltimore is a lot cheaper than here, so you can imagine how it all ended. Suffice it to say no one was driving anywhere, so the boyfriend and I crashed at their house.

At around 5 am I awoke to what sounded like a dance party of some kind. Turns out it was S watching television and dancing around the living room. In her drunkenness she forgot we were there. Here’s what I walked out to see.

Charming, no? The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Wow. I went to a midnight showing of this once and swore to kill anyone who tried to make me see it again. Not a good way to wake up hungover. The silver lining, aside from having ammunition to tease a friend for the rest of her life, was the boyfriend and I just got in the car and came home right away. I got some stuff done and plan to take a nap soon. I don’t expect he’ll wake up until sometime this afternoon anyway.
