La la la, I can’t hear you

That was my extremely mature reaction to my dad calling to have a “serious” conversation last night. He wanted to talk about some money stuff and papers. One of his close friends passed away a few weeks ago and apparently her estate was in real disarray.

So, of course, Dad needs to make sure everything is together and arranged, and that I know everything. We talked about some new senior life insurance policies they bought, safe deposit box information, and a lot more.

Nothing I want to think about, but important, I know.

Dear Spring

Written by SBF on April 21, 2011 – 2:24 pm

Where the hell are you?

I’m sitting at my desk trying to write an article – using some great lipofuze reviews, FYI – and realized something. The weather blows. I was writing a section about spring trends and activities and nothing was coming to me. Because it’s been cold and or raining since February, with no real end in sight.

So I’m trying to cast my mind back to a time when seasons did change and people’s behavior was different, thus requiring different marketing to them in warming weather.

Orange you glad…

… I didn’t say banana?

Remember that joke? I heard it again from a kid today. It made me happy that even though this little person seems like an alien creature compared to my childhood, they still like stupid knock knock jokes/puns, and can talk about things other than computer games.

Anyway, I met this kid with Little Mama who’s looking at gyms to join and I tagged along. The one she’s probably picking has a great personal trainer program which is really important to her. She’s always been big on exercising and is concerned about how that works as the pregnancy progresses.

Considering the fact that walking the dog is the most exercise I get a day, I had very little to contribute to the conversation, but it was fun to see all the places and hear their sales pitches.

Know your ish

Written by SBF on April 12, 2011 – 4:27 pm

Everyone’s been all up in arms about new things going on in DC lately. Which is fine. Politicians do a lot of talking around issues that matter a lot to people, but in ways that rarely make sense.

The only solution is to educate yourself. For example, if you don’t know much about social security disability insurance, there are a million places to find out what you should know. Not to become an expert, but enough to understand what’s going on, what your choices are, and what to do when issues arise. (Real life example)

Being an informed consumer and citizen is incredibly important, especially considering how complicated life is.

The Nose Knows

Written by SBF on March 30, 2011 – 9:52 am

I’ve been pretty stressed lately, and apparently my skin is (once again) showing that. I have tried everything from googling how to get rid of blackheads on nose to seeing a dermatologist. The skin? Cares nothing for my efforts. Just keeps breaking out.

At the point I’m out of ideas. Right now my plan is to just wait it out. The problems always go away eventually, though they’ll return. Sigh. Bigger sigh.

Big big bill

Written by SBF on March 21, 2011 – 2:22 pm

Today I got a huge bill in the mail. It’s from the hospital for my visit after the “minor” car accident last month. Now, being self-employed is great most of the time. One big exception is health insurance. I have to pay for individual coverage which costs a ton. Especially as a woman of child-bearing age.

I won’t get into specifics, but let’s just say it costs almost as much as my rent at my old apartment and leave it at that. Since I’m not quite old enough for a good cheap Medicare plan, I just have to suck it up and pay.

Today’s pain is caused by my deductible. The amount I have to pay out of pocket each year before my insurance will cover things. At least it’s early this year. in 2010 I didn’t meet my deductible until November.
