La la la, I can’t hear you
Written by SBF on June 3, 2011 – 1:02 pmThat was my extremely mature reaction to my dad calling to have a “serious” conversation last night. He wanted to talk about some money stuff and papers. One of his close friends passed away a few weeks ago and apparently her estate was in real disarray.
So, of course, Dad needs to make sure everything is together and arranged, and that I know everything. We talked about some new senior life insurance policies they bought, safe deposit box information, and a lot more.
Nothing I want to think about, but important, I know.

There’s no stopping me
Written by SBF on May 29, 2011 – 7:08 pmFor reals. Little Mama (the artist formerly known as Little Sister) is having her first (of two) baby showers this weekend. This one is just for friends etc. in the DC area. She’ll do another at home next month. As co-hostess and party starter, I was charged with buying the funny shirts, decorations, and planning the menu.
The best part? I got to plan a menu I don’t have to cook. My other co-hostess insisted on having the party catered. So I spent hours looking at pretty sounding food and didn’t have to even go inside a kitchen. Everyone wins!

What’s another word for exhausted
Written by SBF on May 25, 2011 – 7:17 pmMan oh man, am I tired. This month has been a real marathon and there’s more to go. I’ve canceled our Memorial Day weekend plans so the boyfriend and I can just veg out at home for a few days. Right now the plan is to turn off the phones and close the drapes. We won’t do anything more strenuous than order chinese.
Sounds like heaven. You know how people are always complaining that kids today never go outside? Like they spend 24/7 on Playstation and cell phones? Sign me up for some of that. Less go there and get things done, more click here to complete this task.
I’m supposed to be going to the grocery store right now, but my butt refuses to move off the sofa. Dog and cat are in agreement, we will not be moved.

Bathroom armageddon
Written by SBF on May 14, 2011 – 10:10 pmIt’s clear that the boyfriend and I have been together too long. We had a twenty minute argument this morning about the shower curtains we’ve been talking about buying. The idea was to get a matched set so both of the bathrooms have the same colors and design. But he’s decided the upstairs should be different (complete with plans to paint), so the curtains won’t work.
In the end we decided to keep the ones we ordered. The dog ate half the last one, so even if we only use it for one bathroom it’ll need replacing eventually.
And yes, I realize that’s a stupid thing to fight about. But we’re lacking in serious relationship issues so this is all we’ve got. And do’t worry, we got over it quickly. Next fight will likely be about packing up the car tomorrow morning. Ah, love.

Baking Overload
Written by SBF on May 12, 2011 – 12:56 pm
The boyfriend is newly obsessed with baking. Yes, I know this is the worst possible time of year to start a hobby that keeps the house 15 degrees warmer, but that’s how he rolls.
We have dozens of chocolate chip cookies, two pies, a quiche, and three pound cakes in the kitchen right now. I’m trying to find someone to take some of this stuff since we’re leaving town in three days.
So, if you’ve got a sweet tooth and live in our neighborhood, feel free to stop by. We’re the house sending vanilla smells out into the street.

Road trippin’ down south
Written by SBF on May 10, 2011 – 4:20 pmDue to an unexpected situation the boyfriend and I are taking a road trip next week. We’re renting a truck and heading down to South Carolina to help a friend. The weather should be nice and we’ve got a pair of new sony digital cameras to document the journey.
We were going to just rush and get there ASAP but we’ve decided to turn it into a mini vacation. So, posting will be thin if at all next week, but I promise to have many exciting stories and some pictures after.
Good times.
