Easter Menu
Written by Jen on April 28, 2011 – 2:44 pm
This year’s Easter dinner kind of came out of left field for me. I decided to cook last minute, and we only had four for dinner, so I wanted to keep things simple. Also, because it was so late, I couldn’t find good lamb for a reasonable price, so we had ham instead.
Everything was pretty basic and easy to make, and works well as leftovers. I managed to find an 8 pound ham which was a lifesaver, so we won’t be eating the damn thing for a month.
I thought about doing the asparagus on the grill since the weather turned out so nice, but it wasn’t worth the effort for just vegetables.
Easter Dinner Menu
Honey Mustard Glazed Ham
Lemon Garlic Roasted Asparagus
Au Gratin Potatoes
Romain Salad with Walnut Vinaigrette
Dessert was mixed berries with fresh whipped cream.

It’s finally here
Written by SBF on April 27, 2011 – 9:04 amBy “it” I am referring to my new chair. Well, actually “they” are here. The boyfriend and I both ordered arm chairs for the den since there isn’t room for a couch in there. Yes, we could have gotten a loveseat to cuddle on, but blech. He’s got cooties. We usually use the room to read anyway, and can’t do that while cuddling.
After weeks of arguing about which designer upholstery fabric would complete our lives, we decided to get different but complementary fabrics. And they rock. The room is painted and looks incredible. Someone should put it in a magazine.

Winner winner chicken dinner
Written by SBF on April 26, 2011 – 12:35 pmThat title has nothing to do with this post, really. I just heard someone say it today at the store and laughed for an hour. I mean, it’s so silly. I can only hope she was talking about an actual chicken dinner.
Anyhoodle, as you know, nothing pleases me more than helping people. Except for pie. Pie is better than helping. Now, helping myself to a piece of pie? Heavenly. There was a point here somewhere. Oh yes. My previous post about places that buy gold. It inspired husband of Little Mama (nee Little Sister). He gathered a bunch together and made some real bank. You can too. Look into it.

Glee returns

Infants like diamonds, right?
Written by SBF on April 24, 2011 – 8:49 amIn my never ending campaign to spoil Little Mama’s coming child, I’ve been looking at some unique baby gifts lately. There’s no point telling me not to, it won’t work. I don’t care. That kid is getting all the best, coolest things I can find, end of story.
I’m joking about the title, by the way. Gifts don’t have to be extravagant to be wonderful. As long as there’s a balance between useful and indulgent, anything goes. Except for toys that make noise. Those are a deal-breaker if you want to stay friends with the parents.

Cookware matters
Written by SBF on April 23, 2011 – 1:14 pmFor the longest time I refused to spend a lot of money on cookware. I figured as long as I knew what I was doing in the kitchen, I could use whatever my local Big Box store had to offer and still make good food. Fast forward a few years to me replacing everything in my kitchen for the second or third time, and I finally came to my senses.
Yes, it can be painful to shell out over a hundred bucks for a knife. But it will last forever, take sharpening well, and make the work you do with it faster and better.
And aside from being beautiful, cooking in le creuset makes the food taste better. I’ll never braise in cheap junk again.
Think about cookware like appliances. Investing in quality up front will more than pay for itself in quality and length of use.
