The Nose Knows
Written by SBF on March 30, 2011 – 9:52 amI’ve been pretty stressed lately, and apparently my skin is (once again) showing that. I have tried everything from googling how to get rid of blackheads on nose to seeing a dermatologist. The skin? Cares nothing for my efforts. Just keeps breaking out.
At the point I’m out of ideas. Right now my plan is to just wait it out. The problems always go away eventually, though they’ll return. Sigh. Bigger sigh.

That time again
Written by SBF on March 25, 2011 – 7:35 pmEven though the weather right now is horrible, summer is coming. And as has become our tradition, the boyfriend and I are making plans. We’ll be doing the Outer Banks vacation rental in June I hope, leaving plenty of room to try some new summer fun stuff.
I know we’ll be spending at least a week in New York while his parents are away (got to take care of the dog – plus, free house in New York). I’m trying to coax J out of Philly for a road trip of some kind, but it doesn’t seem to be working.
Tell me internet, what are your summer plans?

Big big bill
Written by SBF on March 21, 2011 – 2:22 pmToday I got a huge bill in the mail. It’s from the hospital for my visit after the “minor” car accident last month. Now, being self-employed is great most of the time. One big exception is health insurance. I have to pay for individual coverage which costs a ton. Especially as a woman of child-bearing age.
I won’t get into specifics, but let’s just say it costs almost as much as my rent at my old apartment and leave it at that. Since I’m not quite old enough for a good cheap Medicare plan, I just have to suck it up and pay.
Today’s pain is caused by my deductible. The amount I have to pay out of pocket each year before my insurance will cover things. At least it’s early this year. in 2010 I didn’t meet my deductible until November.

Tonight’s menu as requested
Written by Jen on March 17, 2011 – 12:44 pmSBF asked (ordered) me to post my menu for my St. Patrick’s day dinner tonight. We’re having corned beef, of course. I’m corning it myself (thank you Alton Brown). The rest of the menu is a mixture of classic ingredients and less than traditional preparations.
Braised Corned Beef
Sauteed Spicy Cabbage
Glazed Carrots
Colcannon (Simply Recipes version)
Whole Wheat Irish Soda Bread
… and something else for dessert that I haven’t decided on. Will probably just send Paul to the bakery to pick whatever looks good.
