Eat more of these
Written by SBF on January 28, 2011 – 9:32 pmOne of the problems with a focus on weight is it ignores a lot of other indicators of health. I’ve always been on the low side of “optimal” weight for my height. But that doesn’t mean I’ve always been healthy.
On the contrary, the worse I eat, the thinner I get. When I’m eating crap I feel bad and am not active.
I also had high cholesterol for a few years until I started cooking again.
Everyone needs to control their intake of high calorie high fat foods. But you can offset some of the “bad things” you like with good things that taste good, without starving.
There are a lot of yummy foods that burn fat. Garlic is one. I eat it as often as possible. There are others…

Song of the Day – Hide & Seek Edition
Written by SBF on January 28, 2011 – 11:42 amThis is such a weird little song, and the video matches well. Just like it. Dunno why. Back up off me.

My obsession continues
Written by SBF on January 27, 2011 – 11:24 pmReaders who’ve been following along for the past few months will know I’ve become slightly obsessed with Little Sister’s pregnancy. But don’t get it twisted, she eggs me on.
Like this morning she sent me an email because she’s looking for a new best prenatal vitamin. Hello? Asking for trouble, my friend.
I’ve sent her at least seven different articles and three suggestions already.
We’ve scheduled a follow-up call to discuss options. She loves it, so do I.

Recycling, sort of
Written by SBF on January 26, 2011 – 1:02 pmThere was a movie about a woman with a ton of bridesmaid dresses in her closet. I didn’t see it, but it was a romcom, so I assume she finally found love or whatever.
I have five in mine, personally. Three of them recent, and two I kept because I really liked the dresses. They’re not all hideously colored monstrosities. Most I think are just nice formal wear that isn’t particularly useful for most occasions.
But some will arise, and it’s good to have options.

Lost in Translation
Written by Jen on January 25, 2011 – 2:26 pmI had to share this with you guys. A professional acquaintance posted something she’d translated from French to English on her blog. Now, she didn’t know a word of French, so she just assumed the website she used got it right. Never ever do this. Unless you’re just translating to get the gist of things for your own use, it won’t work. If it did the UN would have fired all their interpreters and be using Google translate with voice recognition.
Here’s a fun example of how word to word translation doesn’t help you actually understand things. This is a very successful song by Francis Cabrel. Direct translation from Google is after the jump. Tell me how good the song is from that.
L’Encre De Tes Yeux
