Advice for sleepless nights
Written by SBF on April 25, 2010 – 7:22 pmYou know, the boyfriend and I have been together for almost three years. In that time we’ve both spent some significant time with each others family. And we’ve gotten pretty close. So it isn’t weird for his mother to call or email me about things completely unrelated to her son.
So, when she called me today while I was at brunch, I didn’t think anything of it. I excused myself from the table and went to talk to her. She’s been having trouble sleeping apparently, and I guess Dan told her I went through a long bout of insomnia last year. Even aside from the dark circles, it sucks to have trouble sleeping.
I never found out what my problem is, and it isn’t something that has happened before or since. So, I suggested that she email J, who is the high priestess of sleep issues. they met once, so it wasn’t completely strange, or so I thought.
After I went back to my brunch and reported in about the conversation I was told be three different people that this was super weird. What do you think?

The beginning of the end?
Written by SBF on April 23, 2010 – 2:41 pmJust kidding. Sort of. Due to some budget cutting and space issues, the boyfriend is probably going to end up working from home a few days a week. It’s a pilot program starting in June, at least through the end of the summer. My feeling? Yikes. I can’t really see how we can both work in the house at the same time on a regular basis. First of all, we don’t have the appropriate office furniture. And I don’t want to share.
I’ve worked from home for years now, and have definitely gotten into good habits. Plus, part of what keeps me motivated to work is being alone with nothing else to do. If we’re both here I expect a lot of stopping by to check in, and enabling of each others procrastination.
Maybe I can convince him to work in the basement.

A Beauty Regimen?
Written by SBF on April 22, 2010 – 3:56 pmFor the record, the term is regimen, not regime. Drives me crazy. I mean, I guess you could have a beauty regime, but that’s not what people mean when they say it wrong.
Anyway, moving on. Much as it sounds really frou frou high maintenance, everyone has one. We just call it different things. Like the boyfriend refers to the 40 minutes he spends getting ready every morning as “getting battle ready.” I tend to call it “making myself presentable.” It all means the same thing.
Today we talked about how we use different products over time. I don’t mean we’re quite at the skin rejuvenation and hair loss prevention stage, but you can click here to learn more about eye creams and know I’m right there with you, ok?
The point is we discovered that between the two of us we use 23 products to get ready to leave the house. That includes shower gel, hair and skin products, aftershave, etc. That seems like a lot of stuff, right?

Bathtub bliss
Written by SBF on April 21, 2010 – 10:04 amOr more accurately, lack of bathtub bliss. One of the best things about this house is the tub in the guest bath. It’s one of those old, claw foot ones that weigh a ton and are deep enough to drown in. Which brings me to the point of the post. Instead of going to www.rvt.com like a good girl, when I couldn’t sleep last night I decided to take a bath. Worked in theory. Except it was too relaxing and I fell asleep and almost died. Not really, but I did make a mess sloshing water all over the floor when I jolted awake. Lame.

Mmm, fruity!
Written by SBF on April 20, 2010 – 3:24 pmI spent most of the day in my car today, coming back to DC from central Virginia. Which sucked. But I did find an amazing farmers market, and have loaded up on some great produce. Lots of excellent vitamin replenishing deliciousness. So, I’m going to spend the evening cooking, which I have been too busy to do for a while. Very exciting. Sometimes eating healthy is fun. For a while. With booze.
