In the park
Written by SBF on April 30, 2010 – 2:51 pmI ran away from home for a little while today. I was trying to write and just got completely blocked. So, I went for a walk and ended up sitting on a bench in the park for an hour or so. Instead of dealing with CLA stuff, I was watching little kids play.It was great. Reason number 4,581 to work from home and make your own hours, right? Well, it was cool until I got stung by a bee, but that’s what I get for wasting time.

Back away from the ottoman
Written by SBF on April 29, 2010 – 10:22 amHave I mentioned my former patio furniture obsession has returned? It has. And is stronger than ever. I’m having the hardest time finding stuff that is nice, durable, easy to clean, comfortable, and cute.
Now that I’ve typed that whole list it does seem like a lot to ask, but still. I mean, there’s tons of new furniture in the house that fits those criteria. Why is it so hard to find the same for the back yard?
I was walking by a store this morning and saw a single ottoman that looked perfect, but of course the set that matched it was both ridiculously expensive, and way too big for the space we have. Sigh. Life is so hard (that’s sarcasm).

Bad Boyfriend
Written by SBF on April 26, 2010 – 6:27 pmSo, uh, in an attempt to surprise me a little, the boyfriend accidentally ignited a two family crazy storm. It goes a little something like this:
I was planning to go to a conference in Chicago in a few weeks. At the same time, the boyfriend had a Branson vacation spectacular with some of his college friends, or so I thought. Turns out he was really planning to meet me in Chicago, and we’d spend a few days there after my work stuff was done. We were supposed to go to Chicago over a year ago but something came up. Sweet, no?
In order to finalize the plan, he needed to get some information about my trip. Instead of snooping he decided to just ask my mom to find out for him. But, in quickly sending her an email about it he was too vague, and she got it into her head that he was planning to propose to me.
So, she called his mother, and both families were in a secret tizzy for the last week or so. Fortunately my boyfriend is a smart man, and as soon as he talked to my mom again realized something was off. He clarified, and she claimed to believe him.
He had to spoil the surprise for me because it was too crazy to not tell. So I’m going to be talking my family off the ledge for a while. Sheesh.

Sorry AZ
Written by Jen on April 26, 2010 – 5:13 pmI’m not a boycott kinda gal, but I’m on board with this. I am sorry for the people and businesses of Arizona, because I believe this will catch on. But you need to take up any revenue or business lost with your state legislature and governor.
Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz.) providing sage advise said, “Our economic sanction is: Do not do business with a state that is propagating the idea separate but equal treatment under the law can be codified.”
Grijalva, who represents a southern Arizona district (Tucson) called Senate Bill 1070 “racist.”
Grijalva added, “The governor and legislature are blind to what this bill will really do to citizens, law enforcement and the state economy. Tourists will not come to a state with discriminatory policies on the books. Businesses will not move here. Hispanic workers and taxpayers will leave. If state lawmakers don’t realize or don’t care how detrimental this will be, we need to make them somehow understand.”
I was actually planning a trip to Arizona this summer. Those plans have been canceled.

Making bad karma
Written by SBF on April 26, 2010 – 3:56 pmI mean, sometimes we just jinx ourselves, right? I wrote about J getting stuck in a CVS a long time ago. And I was remembering and laughing about it this morning. And because jerks who laugh at their friends sometimes get what they deserve, I got stuck in an elevator for over an hour.
I was meeting a former coworker at her new job, and running late. I stopped at a pharmacy for some womens vitamins and caffeine, which is what made me think of the story.
I was stuck there by myself, and I’m not sure if that’s better than being with a stranger or not. On one hand I didn’t have anyone to annoy me, but there was also nothing to distract from the situation.
