Post from afar

Written by SBF on December 30, 2009 – 12:25 pm

Posting from afar. More details when we get home, but this trip is amazing. The boyfriend and I are having a great time, though things at home are weighing on me a bit. Little Sister is still dealing with getting laid off, so if anyone has ideas or leads for jobs in healthcare, or pharma stuff, let her know so I can stop worrying about her.

See how it’s all about me? Who cares, I’m on vacation!

Settling in for the blizzard

Written by SBF on December 18, 2009 – 6:29 pm

If you’re anywhere on or near the East Coast of the US, you’ve heard about the big snow storm coming tonight and tomorrow. Estimates for DC are between 10 and 14 inches right now. Personally, I’m excited. I went to the grocery store yesterday, and I have a ton of work to do. So, a couple days stuck in the house sounds about perfect.

Once I’n done invoicing for this month I have a lot of research to do on the tidal basin and hopefully a Plano cosmetic dentist for a little something extra.

I expect to see this tomorrow morning, and will be disappointed with anything less. Plus, the boyfriend and I are planning to build a snowperson in the front yard.

About face

Written by SBF on December 17, 2009 – 6:10 pm

Oh, I forgot to thank the folks who sent in ideas for acne treatments a while ago. Whatever the problem was cleared up pretty quickly, without me really doing anything except being more conscientious about washing my face twice a day.

My next medical issue for the class is a weird pain in my left thumb. I thought I hit it on something and didn’t remember, but it’s been sore for over a week, and there’s no bruise or anything. Ideas?

Black He-Man in the house

Written by SBF on December 17, 2009 – 12:23 pm

While the boyfriend and I were in New York with his family, his dad mentioned that Dan had put on some weight. I see him every day so I hadn’t noticed, but he has. Not a lot, we’re both kinda skinny by nature. But he kind of freaked out about it. Something about being shirtless during our vacation, I dunno. He’s spending an hour every day in the basement “working out” now. I use scare quotes because his idea of working out is lifting weights for 10 minutes then talking about how pumped he’s going to be for the rest of the workout time. Just like his idea of a weight loss diet is having a lot of unhealthy snacks throughout the day instead of meals. For a smart guy, he’s a dumb ass. But he’s my dumb ass and I love him.

Suck it, music snobs

Written by Jen on December 17, 2009 – 9:28 am

I don’t mean the classic music snob, who only likes bands who’ve never had a record deal, or been on MTV. Though, fuck them too. I mean people who talk about what kind of music you’re allowed to like. Like black people can only like hip hop and R&B. Old black people can like jazz too. But no country music. Whatever.

Like what you like. In the 90s when grunge music came out, I loved it as much as any white kid in the Pacific Northwest. Because I’m a middle class semi suburban kid. I grew up in Philadelphia, but our neighborhood is on the city line. And I went to private school. Rap from that era just didn’t connect with me, I liked what did.

My tastes are pretty broad and random now, and I like that. One of my favorite bands is The Pietasters. Love their shit. These guys put on such a great live show. Here’s a sample:

And yes, I’m aware that ska started in Jamaica in the 60s, but the good 3rd wave ska bands respect that history and that rocks. Plus, fun music.
