Even higher education
Written by SBF on October 29, 2009 – 5:44 pmA while ago I mentioned that the boyfriend is thinking about going back to get a masters degree. I can’t really be helpful because mine mostly served to create pointless debt, but whatever. He’s being smart about it, which is more than I can say for myself.
Part of the thinking is whether to continue in his current field, or try something else. For his first 2 years of undergrad he was planning to teach, and is thinking about going back to that. He’s good at it, so I’m supportive. But I think he should consider what kind of job he wants after school is over. Education is a noble, if harrowing field.
So he’s been looking at satisfaction reports, salary surveys and education job search sites for info.
He’s not sure if it’s a dream or a realistic plan. Whatever makes him happy is fine with me. Though, I may have to vote against teaching if he makes any more “hot for teacher” jokes. Cornball.

Green or gray
Written by SBF on October 29, 2009 – 5:12 pmI promise, no more home-related posts – after this one.
As I’m writing this the boyfriend is on the kitchen floor taking pictures. Why? Because we’re arguing about the color of the tile. Neither of us is colorblind, but the battle rages on. I am 100% certain that the floor is gray. I have a lot of gray things and am rather familiar with the color. I don’t see any hints of green regardless of the time of day or lighting.
But he’s just as positive that the tiles are green. He started out agreeing that it was a “gray-ish” green, but has backed off from that now. He (with beer #4) has decided that the issue must be settled this evening, and is planning to send pictures to 5 people, expecting them all to agree with him. Of course, a digital camera photo on 5 different computer screens and phones won’t really help, but he’s dedicated to it, so I’m just staying out of the way.

We moved – did you notice?
Written by Jen on October 29, 2009 – 11:21 amThe move to the new web host went fine. Somehow this is the first time I’ve done this, which seems impossible, but there it is. I noticed a couple of weird things in really old posts, and tried to fix them.

The strangest things…
Written by SBF on October 27, 2009 – 3:30 pmI get obsessed with the strangest things, really. After my weekend shopping trip I was sitting in the living room thinking about the floors in the house. They’re all hardwood and tile, which make them easy to clean, but not very comfortable in cold weather. Neither the boyfriend or I wear shoes in the house much, and we don’t own a single pair of slippers.
Now, we have a couple of fantastic rugs in key areas, but we can’t exactly afford to slap down an area rug anywhere we might walk.
So I turned to J, who never wears shoes inside and is always cold. She introduced me to the idea of slipper socks. We are hooked. More on that later, including photos of our new colorful collection.

How sweet
Written by SBF on October 27, 2009 – 4:16 amI think I mentioned that I’ve been having some skin issues lately. And my loving and pushing his luck boyfriend mentioned this fact to his mother. So far she’s sent me 7 emails about it. Lists of foods to eat and foods to avoid. Suggestions about how and when to wash sheets and towels. Facial cleansers, moisturizers, toners, and something called a face buffer that I’m afraid to even think about. I’ve gotten 4 articles about salicylic acid, which is great, but it is all making my head spin a bit.
There is such a thing as too helpful.

More shopping!!!
Written by SBF on October 26, 2009 – 9:45 amNote: We’re doing it for the economy. And the tiny babies.
Sunday was dedicated to shopping for the house (again). The boyfriend was busy, so I spend the afternoon with my friend T who knows everything there is to know about furniture. To the point of being irritating about it. Fortunately he also loves candy, so I just gave him a bag of Halloween snacks and he shut up except when specifically asked about something.
We got a super cute cabinet for the bathroom, finally found a nice tv stand for the bedroom and ogled some porch chairs I was unwilling to commit to.
