Vegetarian cooking goes down in bacon wrapped flames
Written by SBF on April 22, 2009 – 10:17 amThat failed miserably. The boyfriend and I were experimenting with vegetarianism (I know, dangerous stuff that). The plan was that we would only cook vegetarian food at home. If out to dinner or at someone else’s place we could and would eat whatever.
The first two weeks went fine. Lots of new recipes, some successes and some… well, learning experiences. But then it happened. I was in Whole Foods around 5:45 one evening (terrible mistake, but I’d been painting all day and had no food in the house.) Somehow my cart got switched with someone else’s – someone with similar taste in vegetables and beer. Then my father called while I was in line, so I wasn’t’ paying attention during checkout.
Next thing you know I get home to vegetables, pasta, and two pounds of applewood smoked bacon. I am weak, and was undone. I made a risotto and asparagus wrapped in bacon. Falling off the wagon smelled, felt and tasted amazing.
Sadly, the bacon was definitely a gateway meat for me and I’ve had meat or chicken almost every day since. I’d be embarrassed, but um… yummy.

Where the Wild Things Are!
Written by SBF on April 19, 2009 – 5:37 pmCheck it. They’re making a live action version of one of my favorite children’s books, Where the Wild Things Are. The story, written by Maurice Sendak is about a naughty little boy named Max who invents a world populated by monsters, friendly and not.
The movie is directed by Spike Jonze (hmmm) and stars Mark Ruffalo and Katherine Keener (yay!). It opens in the fall.
From the trailer, it actually looks good. I think it’s scary to see a movie based on a book like this, so attached to memories and personal imagination. But I must admit I am intrigued so far.
Trailer and new area rugs.

Of Taxes and Tea Bags
Written by SBF on April 15, 2009 – 12:07 pmHappy Tax Day! Kidding. Nothing to celebrate. I did my taxes 6 weeks ago, so this day is pretty much meaningless except for the constant coverage on television. Something that I am paying attention to is:

In case you missed it, to protest government spending to stimulate the economy, conservative activists are hosting Tea bagging parties. More here from the Rachel Maddow show.
Why is this funny? Because all of the calls to “tea bag Obama” and “tea bag them before they tea bag you” seem to be completely unaware of the other, sex-related meaning of the term tea bagging. Also featured in Sex and the City:
J has been laughing like a 12 year old boy about this all week. Now I see why. Read more »

Turn into this?
Ugh. I know it may be blasphemy for my generation, but I think I hate Madonna.
Stay tuned, actual blogging is in the offing. Pinky swear.

The best Lost recaps ever
Written by Jen on April 7, 2009 – 5:42 pmNote: This is my first post here, but not my introduction. Because I’m lame and haven’t written it yet.
I’m insanely into Lost, like lots of people. It’s smart and mind-blowing and all that jazz. But I don’t believe in taking anything that seriously, so I love making fun of it too.
Towards that effort I strongly recommend reading Ack from TVgasm’s Lost recaps. Fair to middling if you want to know what happened, awesome to stupendous if you want to laugh your ass off.
This week’s recap of What Ever Happened Happened, Lost: Mommy Dearest made me shoot beer out of my nose. Which got me laughed at by my mother, but that’s another story.

Random stuff
Written by SBF on April 4, 2009 – 4:24 pmI don’t have a lot of time to post, but I wanted to share a couple of quick things. Preparations for the move are going well, but the boyfriend and I are both just completely wiped out by things.
- J will be posting starting next week, she’ll introduce herself
- I’m a little high on paint fumes right now
- The boyfriend’s sister eloped last week and everyone’s going crazy
- I’m only cooking vegetarian food for the month of April – more on this later
- Three of my clients have laid off 30%+ f their staff this month. Very sad.
