Spring Weekend
Written by SBF on March 7, 2009 – 9:43 amFor whatever strange weather reason, this weekend is nutso crazy nice. Less than a week after a snow storm. Fun times. Anyway, the boyfriend is having a Jump the Gun for Spring party (planned last night), so we went shopping first thing this morning and I’m going to be cooking half the day. The menu is still forming, but in reference to the theme, I’m starting with thai spring rolls. Someone sent me this video, which is adorable, so that inspired me.

We love random
Written by SBF on March 6, 2009 – 4:03 pmJ, my fellow lover of all things random introduced me to a new favorite thing, Google Hot Trends. It shows some of the most popular searches every day. It’s completely bizarre and fantastic. Most of the things make sense, search terms related to big news, television or moves. Others are completely out of left field.
Here are the top 100 listed right now. It updates throughout the day. Read more »

Is Facebook the New Google?
Written by SBF on March 5, 2009 – 9:23 amLike Google it seems Facebook, after becoming lord and master to everyone I know under the age of 25, and more and more of an obsession for those over it, it getting hammered for the bad it does. Full disclosure, I don’t even have a Facebook account. I tried MySpace a few years ago, but social networking isn’t for me. I know, blasphemy.
Anyway, after craziness about their photo owndership policies, the Washington Post has a rather snarky article about people with strange names having trouble getting Facebook accounts.
Because after Caitlin Batman Shaw, a mental health therapist in Arlington, submitted the brief online form, she received an automated response rejecting her. The faceless gatekeepers of Facebook had decided her name could not possibly be real. Batman Shaw appealed, and was rejected. Appealed, rejected. “The process took me three weeks” and several e-mail queries, she says, before she was finally able to use her full legal name.
Funny stuff, and stupid. Another woman whose last name is also Batman was told she had to fax a copy of her drivers license over to get her account approved. Yeah right. Get over yourself Facebook. Read more »

I suck at making decisions it seems
Written by SBF on March 3, 2009 – 6:27 pmI’m trying to decide whether or not to move in with the boyfriend in two months. A friend of his owns a house in a cute neighborhood, but is moving to Austin, TX for work. He’s not going to try and sell the house because of the market right now, so he has offered to let the boyfriend rent it for at least a year.
Together we can totally afford the rent and utilities, and it has a great office setup in the basement, so work would be easy. But we weren’t talking about moving in together until this offer came up, so I’m very unsure. Financially and practically it makes total sense. But it would suck to push ourselves into it for those reasons without considering the cost to our relationship.
So, I have a lot of thinking to do. And I’m not really sure how to make this decision. Where’s a magic 8 ball when you need one?
