My new home office

As nervous as I am about the big move-in, I’m completely psyched about the room in the house that will be my home office. There may be actual giddiness. Thanks to J, who know everything about booze, tech jobs, and room planning, I found a fun toy.

It’s an online room designer. You can put in dimensions and play with where things go. Then you just paste into an image editor and color things how you want (crappily in my case).

Here’s the layout I think I like so far. Cute right? My own space with a door and everything. Hooray!

Lala la there’s nothing in my head…

I’m working on 2 hours of sleep. I wish I could say it was from having so much fun last night, but it isn’t. I bailed on the boyfriend and co very early and came home. I’ve felt sick ever since. Which sucks because I can’t be sick right now – too much to do.

So I’m trying to get some extra vitamins and good food. Hopefully I’ll be able to keep from getting really sick. Argh.

St. Patty’s Day from the boyfriend

This was in the first email i read this morning. The second was a list of places far away from anything St. Patrick’s Day themed for drinks tonight. Living together is almost sure to send us both to rehab.

Moving in

Well, we’ve been talking about it for weeks, and the boyfriend and I have decided that we’re going to take the house and move in together. I’ll be honest, I’m completely freaked out. But I think things will be fine. What makes me think it will work is we have been actually talking about our concerns, and trying to come up with solutions together that we can be comfortable with. Not quite spring cleaning

For some hormone/brain chemistry/stress/boredom soaked reason I totally blew off everything I was supposed to do today to clean my apartment. An in depth, for real clean. Scrubbing floors, washing baseboards, I even cleaned the area under the burners in my stove. It was very relaxing, but I’m fairly sure that’s because I am high on cleaning product fumes. Fun!

I ended the marathon trying to clean out my hall closet. Many exciting items that I have no idea why I have were found. A box of bendy straws, a CVS bag full of yellow paper napkins, a tube of tennis balls, and three boxes of light bulbs.

Shopping by proxy

I mentioned before that the boyfriend and I had a little party this weekend. It was lots of fun. I’ll take any excuse to cook for a couple of hours, so that’s what I did. the boyfriend hates cooking with me, so he was in charge of shopping. Since we had no menu beforehand, there were a lot of trips to the grocery store.

I like to think we do a good job of communicating with each other, in general. But trying to shop by proxy over the phone was a real struggle. Especially since I was kind of making up recipes as he told me what he saw at the store. At one point the boyfriend threatened to bring home nothing but lettuce if I didn’t pick a vegetable.  Lest I take all responsibility, he was kind of hung over, and couldn’t do the simple math necessary to get things in the right amounts.  Good times. I think we ended up with 7 receipts from Safeway and Whole Foods, but everything came together in the end.

I ended up making the aforementioned thai spring rolls, chicken saltimbocca (sort of), spanakopita, roasted asparagus, red peppers and new potatoes. J brought lots of random yummy cheeses too. Everything turned out really great, considering how disorganized we were. I was bummed we didn’t have more leftovers, those damn hungry bastards.

Happily there was leftover wine, so that was good enough. There’s something about emergency lights.
