She scares me and I like it

Written by SBF on February 9, 2009 – 6:18 pm

This weekend I rediscovered my love for PJ Harvey. That woman is scary as hell, and that’s just swella s far as I’m concerned. This song, Long Snake Moan, is a personal favorite.

The song reminds me of my college roommate for some reason. She never listened to anything that didn’t involve a piano. Maybe it’s the rage. Man was that chick angry. But secretly. She hid it under fake niceness. I prefer to keep my evil right out in the open where everyone can see it. Which is really the nice thing to do. Read more »

Not a doll at all

Written by SBF on February 7, 2009 – 9:39 pm

One other quick thing from the trip. We all did a lot of drinking, but the boyfriend was well ahead of everyone. Generally that’s fine, he’s a nice drunk. But eventually he was feeling a little too nice, and very touchy feely. Which would have been okay but he decided to keep picking me up and carrying me places.

I really hate being carried around like a doll. It’s a huge thing I see with lots of couples, but I find it appalling. If I fall down and break my ankle, sure, help out. But there’s something just really paternalistic to me about doing it for no reason.

So I had to yell at him and keep sliding away. Once he sobered up we had a nice chat about it, no biggie. But it did remind me how much I hate that.

Noteworthy event from the “vacation”

Written by SBF on February 5, 2009 – 2:53 pm

I don’t know what else to call the long weekend, so let’s go with “vacation.”

All things considered it was great fun. Lots of silliness, food and drink. Can’t get much better than that. So, here are a couple of things that happened. As a refresher we went down to the beach in NC for J’s 30th birthday. Attendees were J and her not boyfriend, me and my boyfriend, J’s friend M from high school and my darling, blog-abandoning Little Sister.

The most entertaining thing that happened on the whole trip was before we even got down there. The boyfriend and I left after everyone else but managed to catch up to them somewhere in the middle of Virginia because he’s been driving like a lunatic lately. After some updating text messages they decided to wait for us at a rest stop. When we got there we found J’s not boyfriend, who said he’d misplaced the others. We split up to look around, but then I couldn’t find either of the guys. It was so dumb. I mean, you know what rest stops are like. There are only so many places someone can be.

I’m lurking around the bathrooms for lack of a better plan and this woman comes up to me and asks if I’m looking for someone. I said yes. She says that my friend said he’d be right back and told her what I looked like. I thanked her and asked what he looked like to see which guy it was. She goes into this rambling description that was something like “tall, in jeans and a coat couldn’t see what shirt. I don’t think there was facial hair or anything. he was holding a pair of gloves” and so on, and so on.

I interrupted her and asked if he was black or white. She stopped and just stared at me like I asked her to kiss me. Thinking she was confused I explained that I had been looking for two guys, one white, one black. more staring. Now I’m staring back at her. She finally says, I swear to god, the woman says, “well, I didn’t really notice.” What? She knew he was holding a pair of gloves but didn’t catch his race? Neither or these guys are racially ambiguous. The boyfriend is medium-dark skinned, and J’s whatever is pale with blond hair. Hello!

I didn’t know what to say so I just walked away from her. Come on people. I know there’s a black man in the white house but we can still acknowledge that race exists, okay?

Oh, in case you care, turns out the guys were in another rest room, and the girls were outside talking to some group of tourists from the Netherlands. We were all quickly reunited, safe, and racially identified.

Oh geeze

So I’m back, but in the middle of a total shit storm. Too much to do, not nearly enough time to do it in. I have a list of like 10 things I want to write about but just don’t have the time to actually do it.

More soon I hope. I know, super lame.
