Those little things

Written by SBF on December 31, 2008 – 8:58 am

I’m ending this weird year with a weird couple of days. I’ve had almost every service I use screw up in some way. Last week my cable went out, and it’s been acting strangely ever since. Certain stations will just go dark for a hour or two at a time. Of course the cable company thinks I’m… I dunno, making it up because I don’t have better things to do than call them? Annoying.

Also, I found out that I’ve been paying $25 too much rent for the last year. So, I called the office to get my balance so I can even it out with January’s rent. Yeah, you can imagine how well that went. First I got transferred to six damn people, each one with a different story. That is still unresolved, so I’m going over there soon. I’m willing to deal because it’s kind of like getting $275 for free. Nice.

And in the final irritation, after being a good girlfriend and finding Dan some bomb diggedy (heh) cheap auto insurance, his car got smashed into right in the driveway of my building – while we were standing 10 feet away. The culprit? Was the UPS guy delivering something for me. Sweet merciful Zeus, do you have any idea how much paperwork was involved? A mountain. Which made me miss an important call, which made me have a very angry client, which sucks because I don’t really like them, but now have to kiss their asses for a long, long time.

Okay, and of whining. I’m excited to hang out with my nearest and dearest to welocme 2009. My last post of 2008 is full of bitching, my first of 2009 will not be.

That doesnt mean what you think it means

For the last I don’t even know how long, MSNBC has been running a show called “Sex Bunker.” Every time I saw it, I would giggle. Because wow, I’ll take one of those. Excellent work from whoever came up with that title.

Of course, then I made the mistake of trying to see what it really was. That ruined the fun. Some sick jerk kept a bunch of women in a dungeon he built under his house. And even now in jail he seems to think it wasn’t that big a deal. See? Not funny anymore. Damn my inquisitive nature.

Home from the Holidays

Written by SBF on December 28, 2008 – 11:18 pm

The best part of holiday craziness is when it is finally over. As a serious New Year’s Eve hater, I am done. Nothing particularly interesting happened while I was shuttling my ass up and down the Northeast Corridor, thank goodness.

Saturday the boyfriend and I hid in my apartment, eating stale cookies and watching movies. That was good times. I convinced him to watch my 5 favorite “girl” movies from the 80′s (cable was out). The results?

Heathers
Even better than I remember. “I don’t patronize bunny rabbits.” I’ve owned the DVD for years but didn’t really watch it. That’s a shame. Smoking, screwing, killing. Actual high school was so disappointing for me.

Breakfast Club
Pretty good still. Fantastic music. Still don’t get why everyone thought putting on lipstick from cleavage is so gross. Stupid, but not gross.

Pretty Woman
Wow, I kind of hate this movie now. Worked much better when I was 12. Came out in 1990, but it is 80′s. Boyfriend was shocked that my parents let me see it. Hell, we rented it almost every week. They always were clueless.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
Don’t get me started. Gotta love a dance movie. Terrible moves, hair and clothes. Yikes. But, now I have “dancing in heaven I never thought I’d ever get my feet this far…” stuck in my head forever.

Dirty Dancing
Yeah, more dancing. Ah, the halcyon days of illegal abortion. Sigh. While typing this I’m seeing a commercial for an interview with Patrick Swayze. Seems like he’s doing well after the dire diagnosis.

I’m about to vomit from all this merriment. Happy or Merry whatever you celebrate or don’t celebrate.

Monday Morning Dance Party

Written by SBF on December 22, 2008 – 9:15 am

First off, let me say, I really hated the musical Rent. For a lot of reasons. None of which are the point, so I’ll spare you. The exception was this song, and I really enjoyed Rosario Dawson’s version from the film. Very danceable.

Out Tonight

Side note: While searching for this, I found a disturbing number of videos of songs from the musical with video from the game Sims 2. Wow. Considered yourself warned.

What’s not to love?

Written by SBF on December 21, 2008 – 6:06 pm

Trying to get out of my bad mood, escape holiday stress and forget the assorted craziness lately, I went to back-to-back yoga classes yesterday. I only go occasionally because it’s expensive and a little too crunchy for me, but I needed someone to make me actually lead me. And thank goodness. Because not only did I feel 150% better, I came home to a great surprise. The world’s most fantastic boyfriend (happy?) baked me a cake. And was adorably embarrassed about it. It’s a little lopsided, but lovely. It’s a lemon cake with raspberry filling and “some white kind – vanilla or just white”  icing.

First, I was impressed that he went to buy all the stuff, baked the thing, and iced it while I was gone. That’s a lot of work, even from a box. Of course, I love that he tried to recreate a personal favorite. And, I really appreciate the over-the-top, completely unnecessary step of making it four layers. The thing weighs a tons. But, as you can see, it looks good, and tasted even better. I have no idea what we’re going to do with it, a cake this size would take me months to eat, but I love it very much.

Funk ended, insulin shock beginning.
