South Park – Yeah, Pretty Much

Written by SBF on November 10, 2008 – 11:02 am

This is pretty much how everyone I know has been acting for the last week. It’s good. And funny. Don’t worry, we’ll settle down soon. Maybe. Getting 93% of the vote means a long party, people. I walked by a DC GOP office on Friday, and someone was giving it the finger. Classy.

More Recipe Mangling

Written by SBF on November 8, 2008 – 5:52 pm

I hosted a dinner party last night for 8 people. Not something I’ve done in a long time, but hell, I was in the mood to celebrate. Since New Boyfriend offered to help with the shopping (though it did result in him calling me Miss Blaisy – that’s black Daisy), I figured why not go all out. Here’s the menu, as I remember it.

Creamless Creamy Tomato Soup – After looking at the recipe again, I pretty much followed this one to the letter. I think the only difference is lack of measuring on my part, and I used homemade chicken stock because I had a lot. This was really tasty, and I am not a big soup person.

Ridiculously Massive Roast Leg of Lamb -This started from a Williams-Sonoma cookbook, but, no surprise, changed a bit. Most impressive was the fact that one of my guests donated it because, “yeah, like I was gonna cook a leg of lamb. Besides, we’re all socialists now, right?”

This was really simple to cook. I cut a bunch of slits into the (7.5 lb) leg of lamb and inserted a sliver of garlic and a sprig of thyme into each one the night before the dinner. Then I just added salt, pepper, and a tiny bit of paprika and sage (for color), and roasted the big bastard. I made my own pan sauce instead of following the recipe because I didn’t feel like braising garlic and I didn’t have beef stock, so I used red wine, shallots, parsley, and mushrooms.

Everything else for the dinner was just kind of thrown together. I made a Caesar salad, some mashed sweet potatoes, and sautéed spinach with garlic. Add a ton of wine and some desserts from Heller’s ( bitch, I don’t bake), and it was a very filling, and fun dinner party. Which is a feat I won’t be repeating for 10 years. Damn was that tiring. And reminded me why I need a dishwasher.

Pizza People’s Choice?

Written by SBF on November 3, 2008 – 3:20 pm

Yesterday, in my continuing campaign to be the best ans worst girlfriend ever, simultaneously, I told “New Boyfriend” if he wanted to eat while watching football we had to order pizza because I was not in the mood to cook (long weekend, trust.) After placing the order, I noticed a poll asking who I wad voting for, and the map below, tracking the intended votes of people who ordered pizza from Domino’s. Very cute, and seems pizza people were pretty strongly leaning Obama (as the pundits say). Now if only we could see what toppings each candidates supporters got. That’s an important political issue.

It’s nice to think that 48 hours from now this will (hopefully) all be over, and we’ll have a new president. And I can go back to thinking about what new boots to buy (currently leaning brown suede).
